What Makes the MicroConf Mastermind Matching Process Different?

Mastermind matching applications are open from Sept. 9-24, 2025. Apply now to get matched with a small group of founders who will support you, keep you accountable, and help you solve the many challenges of building your indie SaaS.

If you’ve ever wished for a mastermind (or tried to create your own and watched it fizzle out like an off-brand firework), keep reading.

Most DIY masterminds face predictable problems. Without financial commitment, members might start treating meetings as optional. Someone always cancels last-minute… and boom, your next meeting is falling apart before it even begins.

Your mastermind group shouldn’t disintegrate within a few meetings.

Another common issue crops up when groups fail to choose a meeting format. If one founder dominates every conversation while another barely speaks, the group quickly starts to feel unbalanced.

And of course, revenue disparities are awkward at best and unhelpful at worst. If you’re doing $1K MRR, and your mastermind-mate is doing $100K MRR, you’ve got very different problems to solve. It’s likely you won’t be able to help each other (or that the $100K founder will end up being the “guru” of the group, which usually leads to resentment).

Or maybe you form a group with your friends — which means there’s a pretty good chance that your meetings will lose focus and become hangouts.

We love a good hangout, but the point of a mastermind is to focus on growing your business.

How MicroConf Mastermind matching gets around these issues

Most mastermind matching services use algorithms, AI, or basic questionnaires to throw founders into random groups. We don't.

Our team manually reviews each application, and considers a host of factors to create your group. There’s a human touch that really matters (and those humans also come in handy if your group ever runs into issues).

Once we match your group, you’ll get 8 weeks of mastermind onboarding with our friendly Community Manager. This training will help you:

  • Pick a format

  • Book your first few meetings

  • Start to gel with your group

  • Figure out how to get the most from your mastermind

The goal is to get your group functioning effectively from day one, instead of leaving you to figure it out on your own.

Why masterminds are so effective

Remember that show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Contestants could choose from “lifelines” when they didn’t know the correct answer. And when they used the "Ask the Audience" lifeline, the audience was right a staggering 91% of the time.

This isn't just game show trivia. It's a well-documented phenomenon called “the wisdom of the crowd”. When you bring diverse perspectives together to figure out how to solve problems, you're much more likely to land on the right answer.

For SaaS founders, this means that when you can draw from other founders' experiences and experiments, you’ll be able to make better choices for your business.

Just one conversation could change the trajectory of your SaaS business. We see it happen all the time.

What you get from a well-matched group

A properly structured mastermind gives you four things that are hard to get elsewhere:

  • Accountability: AKA someone actually checks to see if you did what you said you'd do. This is staggeringly, humblingly effective.

  • Shared experiences: In a group, you can learn from your fellow founders’ successes and failures without having to make every mistake yourself. Someone in your group has probably already tested that pricing strategy, or dealt with your mysterious customer churn issue.

  • Collaborative problem-solving: Again, you get better results faster when you can tap into different perspectives and expertise. The technical founder sees things the marketing-focused founder doesn't, and vice versa.

  • Accelerated growth: The compound effect of regular meetings. Because you’ll be neatly zipping around foreseeable pitfalls (thanks to your mastermind-mates giving you a heads-up), you’ll reach milestones faster. And because you're not starting from zero on every decision, your growth rate speeds up.

Feedback from MicroConf Mastermind members

After facilitating more than 1,000 successful mastermind matches across 50+ countries and 20 time zones, we’ve gotten pretty good at this whole matching thing.

Founders in all of the MicroConf Mastermind groups we’ve matched collectively generate more than $150M in ARR. Here's what some of them told us about their experience:

"Our Mastermind has given me excellent feedback on our most important challenges and potential solutions that is grounded in real-world experience [...]

Thanks for putting the Masterminds together, particularly the unseen but critical effort in matching. The first question every founder asks me about my mastermind experience is whether I'm matched with relevant founders and having productive, helpful conversations. The answer is: yes."

- Stephen Kuenzil

"My MicroConf Mastermind helped me feel comfortable sharing business plans for feedback by the second month. I didn't even feel comfortable sharing these plans with people I've known for over a decade. There is something about being in the trenches together with like-minded, good people willing to offer up their experiences that is nearly impossible to find anywhere else."

- Luke Riordan

"As a non-technical founder, my Mastermind group has been invaluable in giving me feedback on protecting my interests with my contracted developer, thinking through how to overcome technical challenges, and providing candid feedback on my ideas. Additionally, it really helps to have a group of like-minded people to force unofficial accountability between calls. This has been a great experience so far!"

- Chris Pallatto

"I'm very glad I joined the mastermind. We have a great group, and we learn a lot from each other. Being part of this group has helped me stay motivated, gain new insights, and validate my product faster than I could have on my own."

- Renato Ignacio

"I value a lot multiple perspectives on the problem I have. I also like to help them and learn from them. Also, a lot of valuable moral support. Super important. Also, seeing closely what others are doing is super valuable for me. I highly value my Mastermind group."

- Genia Cheskidova

"The number 1 for me is having learned from other peers' experiences. It could be lessons learned or tools they used or strategies they know. #2 would be accountability. You don't want to come to a meeting without any real progress, so you give it the extra push to have something to talk about and at the same time it helps your business."

- Henry Neira

Wouldn’t it be great to have your own SaaS sounding board?

The practical details of applying and getting matched

Applications are open from September 9-24, 2025.

Why is there an application fee? We charge a nominal fee based on your current revenue. This isn't about making money from matching (there's virtually no automation in our process, and we pay our team competitively, so, you know, the economics don't work like that).

It's about ensuring commitment. When you have skin in the game, you show up.

We match founders globally. We've worked across every continent except Antarctica (though we'd be happy to change that if you're reading this from a research station!).

If we can't find a suitable match for you, you can either join the next matching pool or get a full refund. Your mastermind membership also includes one round of rematching if your initial group isn't a good fit. We do ask you to give it 90 days first!

You might be wondering…

Is a mastermind right for me?

If you're looking to grow your business, want external accountability, and are open to learning from other founders' experiences, yes. (And if you’re doing just fine but feel like you’re operating in the world’s loneliest vacuum, then also, yes.)

What if I get matched with a direct competitor?

We go to extensive lengths to avoid this, but if something falls through the cracks, email us at support@microconf.com and we'll rematch you.

What if I don't like my group?

Give it 90 days, then let us know. We'll add you to the rematch pool for the next round.

I got matched with a direct competitor. Will you rematch me?

We go to extensive lengths to make sure we don't pair up direct competitors. But if something falls through the cracks, just send us an email at support@microconf.com. We'll rematch you as soon as we find a good fit for you.

I have another question about the mastermind process.

Email us at support@microconf.com. We’ll be happy to answer!

Ready to apply?

Fall 2025 applications close September 24th.

If you're building a SaaS business and you want to tap into the collective wisdom of other founders, the application process takes just about 10 minutes.

(Our hand-matching process takes a lot longer… but that's our job, not yours.)
